Rushing River Riding  Stables

by Famoushorse101 & Seabiscuit   age  9

“Take  a deep breath as you walk through the doors it’s the morning of your first  day…”   Ashleigh was  listening to Taylor Swift’s Song, 15, as she walked into Rushing River  Stables.

She and her horse, a  chestnut Quarter Horse mare, Oak Leaves, had just transferred to this  Stable because her parents needed to move.  Her mother wanted a change, and  her father had been recently laid off.  When her mother had told her, she  had hopped on the bus to the stable she rode at, and ran straight to Oak’s  stall.  Once she had entered  her stall and sunk to her knees, she had burst into tears.

Oak, knowing that her human was  not okay went straight to her,  and gently nuzzled her.   Ashleigh looked up, and began to explain everything.  Ashleigh did hear her parents when  they said that Horses didn’t speak English, she just thought that that  wasn’t true.  Horses do  understand humans.  Sure,  maybe only by tone of voice, but they still understand, and you are  speaking English when you talk.   Therefore, horses do speak English.

Anyway, she was over that  now.   Sure, she missed it, but she was  confident that she could start a new life he at RRRS.  It was the morning of her first  lesson there, and she was both nervous and excited.  She reached Oak’s stall, she gave  her morning apple, and went off to collect her tack.

As she reached the boarder’s tack  room, she gasped.  Two girls,  both very slim and tall, were playing with her tack.  They had unattached the bit, and  were replacing it with a bit she had never seen before.  The bit that was in there now was  sharp and jagged.  Also, they  had taken one stirrup off, on the right side, the side she wouldn't look  at when she was mounting up.   She quickly turned out of view.  What did they think she was?  An idiot?  No way!  She barged into the room.  The two girls froze.

“What do you think you're  doing?”  Ashleigh  demanded.

“Um, fixing some  girls tack, duh!” The brown haired one said.

“That girl happens to be  ME!”  Ashleigh yelled at  them.  The two girls quickly  giggled and raced out of the room.

Ashleigh ran over to her tack and inspected it carefully.  She was very lucky she came  early.  After deciding it was  safe, she brought it to Oak’s stall.

She quickly groomed her and tacked her up.  She then brought her to the indoor  ring, and mounted up.
