September 2009 Poem Contest

Stallion
by Saddleclubgal & Belle   age 9

The horses graze

no fear with the

then they hear

the hoof beats

the lead stallion picks up his head

his ears alert

he smells man

the herd does too

they set off

in a race to be in the lead

the smell is getting further

but that doesn't stop the herd

the stallion rears and whinnies loudly

the herd stops

they start to graze

calm

but alert

the stallion is majestic

his form

his leadership

his muscles

his coat

anyhorse would love to be him

the knows that

the is proud

but wise

the herd falls asleep

and so does he

dreaming

of mountains

of dew in the morning grass

the squeals of foals

he wants nothing but for his herd to be safe

strong

and free
