strong, and smart stallion.
It's been a month since Peanut and I won our first show. We’ve entered a
couple more shows, 2nd place for all of them. He’s also sired more than 6
foals! And the best part, Oreo and Pandora will have 3 more of his foals!!
Oreo is expecting twins and Padnora is expecting only 1 foal. They should
have their foals in about 2 months. I told Katie that she could have one of
the foals. I would own 1, Katie would own 1, and the last one we might sell.
Well anyways, I woke up this morning and got dressed in my riding boots, my
favorite blue tank top, and my favorite blue jeans. I brushed my hair and
teeth and then ate breakfast. I ran outside to the barn.
I groomed Peanut and combed his mane and tail. We were going on our daily
ride. Katie isn't coming because her horse, Miss Longstockings, is expecting
a foal any day now. We rode to our secret place, a meadow I call Wild Flower
Field. It has a few apple and peach trees, lots of flowers, a stream, and a
forest close by. There is also this natural path that leads from the
mountains into the meadow. I've seen 2 herds here before when I was riding
Peanut. I hope he would never leave me to have a herd of his own because I
saw a few mares that didn't have a lead stallion. I dismounted and sat under
the peach tree. I ate a peach while Peanut grazed calmly. I saw a few mares
in the trees, the same mares I've been seeing the past few weeks. So I got
up and mounted Peanut. We rode back home before the mares could get any
closer. I guess you could say that I have a phobia for losing my horse. I
untacked, groomed, fed, and watered Peanut. I then changed into better
clothes and went to Katie's house for dinner.
"Thanks for getting us ice cream mom!"
Katie said as we ate our ice cream. She got chocolate marshmallow swirl and
I got mint chocolate chip.
"Your welcome dear."
We finished our ice cream and then went outside to their field. I saw the
Bakers' Heifers and Angus cows grazing in the field.
"Tell me Jessie, did your dad say anything about the horse herds?"
"No, why?"
"Well, my dad said they're migrating towards our farms and I don't want any
of the horses following them."
"Neither do I."
I told her about the mares I saw earlier.
"Be very careful, you don't want Peanut galloping after them."
I then said thanks for dinner and such. I then went home.
I dressed in my favorite horse pajamas and went into my room. I looked at
the pictures I took of Peanut ever since the day I saw him. Him winning the
show, riding together, the first day I saw him, and so many more memories. I
climbed into bed and turned off the light. Then I slipped away into my
sleep.
I woke up in a meadow. Not just any meadow, but Wild Flower Field. I didn't
understand how I got here. I saw Peanut, fully tacked up and alert, when the
mares walked out of the forest. These were the exact same mares I saw today.
The biggest mare, their lead mare I guess, whinnied to Peanut. He replied
with a soft nicker. He then swung his head towards me, with his big, brown
eyes. They were loving, caring, and very kind. I knew I couldn't ride him
back to our farm, he would fight against me. So, with tears streaming down
my face, I slowly took off his tack and scratched him behind the ears and
stroked his mane.
"Goodbye boy. I’ll never forget you."
He looked at me, his eyes seeming to say that he was sorry to leave me here,
alone.
"Go on. It’s you life, I won't stand in your way."
He gave me a nod and then turned around. He whinnied and galloped past the
mares. They followed him down the path that lead to the mountains. Then I
could only see them as tiny dots in the distance. I woke up.
"Peanut!!"
I shrieked as I sat up.
I was breathing hard, my heart thumping in my chest ten times as fast as it
was suppose to. I also felt as if someone took my heart and smashed it with
a hammer.
"Jessie!"
My mother and father ran into the room. My mom cradled me in her arms as I
sobbed.
"What's wrong sweetie?"
"Is Peanut still here?"
I asked without answering my father.
"Of course he is Jessie. In his stall every night."
"Oh, thank you Lord."
I said gratefully and my heart slowed. I was still crying though.
"What happened?"
"I dreamed of some mares I saw in Wild Flower Field and Peanut ran away with
them."
My parents said it would be all right and not to worry. Peanut was safe in
his stall.
"Go back to sleep dear."
"Okay mom."
I went back to sleep. Luckily, I didn't dream of that nightmare again. I
dreamed of me and Peanut running together across fields. And in that dream I
said, "You will be my horse. Forever."
