Wiggins Gets A Mid-Winter Makeover |
Dear Pony Pals As the Weekly goes to press, ClubPonyPals' site has a new look. Please check all our new features. Our Speed Check lets visitors see how fast their internet connection is, no matter where in the world they are. Or newcomers can click on "my computer" and see right away how pony riding is going to work on their computer. There is a "Store" page where ClubPonyPals credits, stickers and shirts are available to buy. All 82 issues of this newsletter are on their own page. So, please mouse around our new made over site. It's just the start of virtual Wiggins. ClubPonyPals now goes to over 60 countries. Since last week, our site has had well over a hundred thousand page views. This week's hints about how to improve at Pam's mini games comes from Pony Pal CrazyCami13
For next week's issue please email us: have you posted a high score for a word game? If you send your tips here for other Pony Pals to see, we will credit 100 Wiggins bucks to your account. Don't forget to tell us a username (NOT YOUR PASSWORD) where you want credits to go. Email your replies to webmaster@ClubPonyPals.com Please note your state, province or country. Crandal's barn is almost done being completely rebuilt. Very soon, members will be able to untack their ponies, groom them and feed them a tub of hay in their stall. The whole barn will also load much, much faster. And to earn points, members will be able to groom Daisy and Splash for Mrs. Crandal. Until the new barn is open, it is still not possible to untack your pony at Crandal's barn. But if your pony has gotten sick or if you want to raise its health, log out from the game and log back in, then groom it to bring up its health. Make sure and buy some treats before you go out on trail. Your pony will get hungry while you are out on trail, so make sure you have a treat to feed it. Happy Riding!
PS -- You can help ClubPonyPals grow by forwarding this newsletter to others who you think will enjoy our game. |

Dear Pony Pal Aiesha Thank you. We want to make the best pony game anywhere on the internet. There are others that are more complicated but you have to download programs to play them. ClubPonyPals does not need a download. We want it to have lots of pony spirit. And we want it to have the spirit of the Pony Pals books where it's OK to be kind, smart and strong. We think that everyone can have adventures, with or without a pony. WebMaster |
Dear Pony Pal Siobhan You are welcome. How wonderful that you have a chance to ride real ponies and horses too. Maybe the best life of all is to have a chance to both learn on the internet and have outdoor adventures with ponies. Spunky personalities stay in our memories longer than bland ones do. When I was very little, I decided that being cheerful is a choice. I choose to be happy. Bad things are going to happen. Sometimes there isn't much I can do to stop those things. But I can be happy. And I can do my very best not to do anything that I wouldn't want done around me. An old friend told me that if cowboys took as good care of themselves as their horses, they'd live longer. We think that ponies are good for people. They are truthful, they are strong, they will test people all the time and they can carry someone really, really fast to go places. And they like apples, too. Adventures with a pony just seem to happen all by themselves. Please write us what you like about your life with ponies. Webmaster |
Dear Pony Pal Cowboy What is your horse's name? An appy/quarter cross must be pretty. Can you send a photo of your horse? 4H is great. Morgan horses are supposed to be all descended from a single horse owned by a colonial American named Justin Morgan. Do you know that story? Can you write us about it? How about a photo of Zipper? Thanks for your email, Webmaster |
Dear Pony Pal Kirby Right now Pony Pal Trail online only goes to the edge of Crandal's property. It has been a really, really hard job for our code writer to make the pony riding work. Now we can make more trails. First we have to finish rebuilding Crandal's barn so it loads faster. Waiting for that white square to go away is boring. When our code writer finishes rewriting all the code for Crandal's barn, it will be pretty nice. The parts we have checked work really, really well. We can ask about petting a pony. Webmaster |
Dear Pony Pal Ashley Thank you for writing. Downtown Wiggins sort of exists already. We have a lot of the art for it already made. Kline's and Green's stores are going to be open. Grandma Sanders beauty salon will be there, so will the Post Office and the Off Main Diner. Then we will build Olson's Sale Barn and the Wiggins Recycling Center. Then there's the Wiggins Organic Dairy, Nelson's Farm with its own composting center, Mount Morris Ranger Station, Wilhelmina Wiggins' Estate and lots lots more. Webmaster |
Dear Pony Pal Neva You are very, very welcome. The Pony Pals do inspire other people to lead interesting lives in which it is OK to be strong, smart and kind. Webmaster |
Dear Pony Pal Cayce The Pony Pals books are read by people of all ages. The stories in them appeal to a very, very wide audience. But the publisher recommends them for grade 3 in elementary school. So most of our games are made so they can be played by persons who are younger and still be enjoyable. But who knows what the future holds? Watch the Wiggins Weekly and visit the ClubPonyPals site to learn about new features as they go live. Webmaster |

Dear Pony Pal Audrey How good to hear from you. We are fine. It is cold here. You were one of our very first members in ClubPonyPals. Now the Wiggins Weekly goes to over 60 countries to thousands of Pony Pals everywhere. Thanks again for your drawing a couple of weeks ago. How are you doing? What do you think of our website since you first saw it? |
Dear Pony Pal NeVa My friend Jeanne wrote about her in Pony Pals Super Special #4, "The Fourth Pony Pal." This book is hard to find. The webmaster is working with Scholastic who publishes the Pony Pals books to see if books like this one can be easier to get. Can you go to your school library and ask if the librarian can order it from another library? Let me know. Your friend, |
Dear Pony Pal Cayce Thanks for writing. It sounds like your local vets are already treating Cimarron. If your vet says it is OK to use something, then you should follow their advice. 26 is getting along in years for a horse, so each day that you have Cimarron is a gift. Dad says that hoof supplements usually don't harm horses but that you should ask Dr. Laurie, Dr. Privett or Dr. Katie about anything before you give it to Cimarron. He is their patient. Sometimes with animals and people, different doctors will have different ideas. As Cimarron's care givers, your mom, your aunt and you all need to talk about what you think is best for Cimarron and you. You and your horses are a team. Horses almost always give their best for we humans. We in turn do our best to see that their lives are as good as we can make them. |
Dear Pony Pal Summer Thanks for the great drawing. Lightning is pretty good. She stays in her stall when it is freezing rain outside. So does Fat Cat. Cats disapprove of cold rain. I will give Daisy and Splash apple pieces. Soon you will be able to groom them. The webmaster is working on that. Write again soon, OK? Your friend, |
Dear Pony Pal Gabby Lightning sure misses me if I go away at all. I believe that horses and ponies think, just not the same way we do. I think they have very strong emotions. Wow how smart you are to remember that horse dying may be why you didn't like sleepovers. I don't like shows even though I know the reason why is I got sick when I went to my first horse show. I still feel unhappy for no good reason sometimes when I go to a show with my mom. For me it helps to think for a minute and remember why and then sometimes I feel better. Wow school is hard.I like to study and enjoy getting right answers. The teacher praises me. So do my parents. It makes me feel like I matter. Maybe because my mom teaches riding, I feel ok around teachers. Anna got a tutor and she helps her. Since she got a tutor her grades are better. Can you get a tutor to improve your grades? Or maybe you can find someone to be a study partner and you'd both get better grades. What do you think? Is there anyone you could study with? Let me know, Pony Pals, |

Dear Pony Pal Mairen I will see if I can draw a picture for the next Wiggins Weekly. Acorn has a cat. Its name is Shadow. You can read about it in "Detective Pony." Pony Pals books are written by Jeanne Betancourt. You can write to her here. My favorite color is Periwinkle blue. Friends, |
Dear Pony Pal Erin OK. I like to act. It makes me feel good. I taught Acorn tricks. He likes to act, too. It is like we give people a gift. Once I wanted to travel with a circus. But I didn't want to leave my mom and dad. This story is in Pony Pals book #11, "Circus Pony." How are your adventures? |
Dear Pony Pal Hope Well, I guess bay. Acorn is bay. How high in inches is 3rd hole? Bareback? Wow. Mrs. Crandal says pony and rider need to jump at the same time. Do you have a photo of the pony or horse you ride? Pony Pals, |
Dear Pony Pal Jennifer Club Pony Pals website ponies get tired and hungry at the same speed as real ponies. Our first trail is 2 miles long. If you canter 2 miles a real pony needs to rest. Dr. Crandal makes Acorn's teeth are OK. He "floats" them with files. He shapes them. Then Acorn can chew up his hay real well. Ponies and horses have small stomachs. Their plop should always look about the same. If it is too runny or too hard and dry then I ask Dr. Crandal what he thinks. That is about the only way we have to know how their stomach is working. Can you send a picture of Belle? Acorn is a joker. He plays tricks. Thank you for writing. Friends, |
Dear Pony Pal Cayce How good you have Annie. That is a big step. Sometimes I feel very grown up because I have Acorn. He depends on me. I can depend on him. Can you make a Quicktime movie of Annie? I can give them to Mrs. Crandal. Maybe she can post them here. Thanks for the movie names to watch. I like pony movies. Pony Pals, |
Dear Pony Pal B Acorn likes to hear nickers. He talks back. If he hears nickers or whinnies he answers. It can go on a long time. I wish I knew what they said. Maybe jokes. Maybe news. Thank you for writing a letter. Pam has brown eyes. So does Lulu. Mine are blue. Can you send photos of Mariah and Blue? Which picture do you want me to draw? Is it the one that was in an earlier Wiggins Weekly? That is of me jumping Acorn.
Dear Pony Pal Emily Thanks for writing. Your pony sounds very cute. Do you have a photo to send? Is your pony named Dolly? Lulu said she got a letter from a pony pal who rode a horse named Norton. Do you play our online riding game? It is cold here. We have had lots of snow. Acorn and Snow White go in their open shed. They watch it. Then they go outside and stand in it. Horses and ponies make good friends. They are truthful. They are fuzzy. They smell good. Acorn takes me to far away places with my friends Pam and Lulu. Please write again. Your friend, |

Dear Pony Pal NeVa What a musical place name! I went to the library. I saw a place in Australia's New South Wales called that. I was born in Australia. I saw the news this week that there are really, really big brushfires in Australia. It is summer there now. That is really scary. Everybody here hopes the fires go out soon. I hope you are not near them. It is so cold here that it is hard for me to imagine a place that is hot and dry right now. But my dad says Southern Africa is the same way. Maybe New Zealand, too. What kind of horse did you ride? I am in the same grade as Pam and Anna in Wiggins elementary. |
Dear Ashley Gepesy is very cute. She looks all fuzzy like Snow White does now. How do you help care for these horses? I go out to help feed Snow White and Acorn every day. I love the feeling I get when they eat. It makes me calm. I help clean up their paddock, too. We put Acorn and Lightning's pony plop into a rolling container for the Wiggins recycling center. It gets turned into something called "compost." Mrs. Crandal says Wiggins is going to have the compost recycling center to visit or work at to earn Wiggins Bucks. Crandal's barn and Mr. Olson's barn send all their cleanup there, too. Your Pony Pal, |
Dear Summer Thanks for writing. The pictures that you create are really great. Mrs. Crandal tells me that the Wiggins Weekly can't display any pictures without permission from the people who create it. I saw your "Flame" picture. It is so cool. Snow White is good. She doesn't seem to mind the snow much. But when it turns to sleet, she and Acorn step into their run-in shed that is open on one side. Then they snooze standing up and watch the freezing rain come down. I took a cookie out to her, she nibbled it and I hugged her. Her mane smells fresh and clean, like outside air on a winter morning. Otherwise, I sometimes stay up real late and trade emails with my dad in Africa. If he can get to a town that has an internet cafe, he can log on. But most of the time he is too far away for that. I miss him. So does grandma. She is very proud of him. So am I. Mrs. Crandal asked me to ask you: how are your adventures in animation? Friends, |
Dear Pony Pal Emily You are very brave to have turned Norton around and asked him to behave. But that is what horse-savvy is all about. When Snow White is a being bad, I slow down. Mrs. Crandal calls that "pony time." I think she means that I should be ready to spend as long as it takes to make sure Snow White and I agree on what is to be done. Three hours! What a long ride. Pam, Anna and I sometimes let our ponies drink from Badd Brook. The Mount Morris ranger said it is OK for ponies to drink its water. Right now the brook is frozen over. Our very next section Mrs. Crandals online Pony Pal trail is going to Badd Brook. Write back, I liked your letter a lot. Pony Pals,

Dear Pony Pal NeVa Thanks for writing. I asked the Webmaster about seeing other Pony Pals. The answer is...they are working on it. Her site is still really just starting up. There is a whole downtown Wiggins being built. When ClubPonyPals first started, members said they most wanted to ride ponies and maybe meet the Pony Pals. Lately lots of new members have asked about being able to see other members. So the Webmaster will see what it will take to make that a feature of virtual Wiggins. By joining ClubPonyPals, you are now a Pony Pal. Welcome to the barn! Please write to us here about your adventures, with or without a pony.

Dear Pony Pal I will have to ask my dad about how he and my mom met. He and I don't talk about mom too much. We both miss her. She died years ago. Then I traveled with my dad for a while. Then I was in boarding school in England. That's where I got to ride Ginger. I missed her when I first came to live with my grandma Sanders here in Wiggins. Then I got Snow White from Rema. I'm not sure if I can help with finding a farrier where you are. Mr. Olson and Pam's mom both have the same farrier. He is reliable. Have you asked your friends who have horses near you? Usually that is the best way to find someone. A personal reference almost always works the best. That way, someone who cares about you will think before they say someone is good. |

Picture It |
The Story so far.... The Pony Pals had just completed freeing a herd of wild mustangs. They were cleaning up the twine and string, putting it in their saddle bags when suddenly someone shouted "Stop!" They all turned and saw Lulu's father. Lulu was very angry with her Dad, she jumped on Snow White and galloped away. Summer, Meredith, Sunshine, Lulu’s Dad, Pam and Anna gave chase on their ponies and horses. Snow White got out safely, but horse thieves came and tried to steal all the other ponies and horses. Elie and Star stopped them and gave the ropes back to Lulu's dad. Lulu yelled up that she still needed help. Mr. Sanders laid down on the bank and started to feed a rope down to Lulu when suddenly he started to slide! The girls grabbed his shoes but one came off and ..... Eye-High started down towards Lulu and her dad but Tommy Rand poured some oil on the rocks right in front of Eye-High. Eye-High picked up his pace. Everyone held their breath. Then, Eye-High lifted his front legs and jumped! He sprang so high that everyone was amazed. It was like he was going up and up and up, when Eye-High came back down he was past the oily rocks. He cantered past that oil and tossed his head up. He trotted up to Lulu and her dad and put his nose down to sniff. But then Eye-High fell into the water! There was huge splash but the brave pony jumped back up on the bank. Pam G. writes... As Eye-High shook himself like a dog, everyone started to laugh, including Lulu and her dad. The wet mustang looked proud of himself. Lulu stifled her chuckle. "How are you going to get us out?" she asked. Eye-High pointed upstream with his nose and began to trot slowly in that direction. Lulu's dad said "I guess we better follow him." They got up and began walking behind the mustang. Up above, the other Pony Pals and friends got into their saddles. Lulu and her dad could hear pony footfalls as they walked. The streambed got shallower and they rounded a corner to see a bank that they could climb. Eye-High jumped up and nodded to show the humans he knew how to get around. Then... What happens next? Let us know. Write to WebMaster@clubponypals.com |
