May 2009 Story Contest

THE GREATEST JUMPER by Skittles

"All right, Pam," said Mrs. Crandal, her mother. "One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four. Count your strides, and let Lightning jump nicely."

"Okay, mom." said Pam Crandal. "One, two, three, four. Got it. "

"Come on, girl," She urged her pony, Lightning, on. "We can do it, girl!!!"

She turned Lightning around, then saw her mom signal for her to stop.

"Whoa!" Pam said to Lightning. She patted Lightning's satiny neck. "Good girl! You're doing really good."

"Good job, Pam," said Mrs. Crandal. "I hope you got enough practice," she said. " Because the jumping show is tomorrow."

Mrs. Crandal winked at her daughter. "I'm sure you'll place."

Pam smiled. Her mother was so understanding, and very encouraging. "Thanks, mom." said Pam.

Later at 9:00, Pam was up in the barnloft with her pony pals, Lulu and Anna.

"You can definitely do it," said Lulu.

"Remember when your mom's famous jumper friend came? You were an amazing jumper in that show." said Anna.

"And you can wear the Pony Pal colour." Added Lulu enthusiastically.

"Sky blue!!!" said the Pony Pals in union.

After three games of cards, the girls were fast asleep. Dreaming dreams about the subject they loved most; ponies.

"Are you sure I can do it?" Pam asked her father, Dr. Crandal.

He smiled down on his daughter. "Of course you can, honey. But remember, it's not about winning, it's about having fun, and learning from your mistakes."

Pam felt reassured by her father's words. She could do it!!!

The judge finally called their number.

Pam and Lightning came up, and started the course. It was hard, but out of 14 contestants, Pam and Lightning had only 2 faults. If they got one more, they'd be in 2nd.

"We can do it," Pam said to Lightning. Pam held her breath. 'One, two, three, four, jump!!!' Pam let Lightning jump.

She held her breath once she exited the ring.

The judge was going to announce the winner. "And the winner is," he said. "Number #28, Pam Crandal, and her pony, Lightning!!!"

They had done it!!! The collected the ribbon, and then they were met by smothering friends and family. As Pam was being congratulated, she thought, 'This is the life I live. Pony Pal life.'

*THE END*
