Showing Trouble Part 2 (read part 1 here)

"ABBY!" Kati yelled. "ZEPH'S GONE!!!"

Abby, Kati's best friend came racing down the hall.

"Oh no..Not him.... my poor baby!" Abby wailed.

Kati had a plan, and quickly described it to Abby. Abby nodded, and

checking the stall, Kati tacked up Boomer and SunBurst, the farms calmest yet fastest and surefooted horses there were. They hopped on and began their search.

"Where should we search first?" Abby asked.

"The river. He always wants to go there when we ride on the trails."

"Lets go!" Yelled Abby.

As Abby and Kati galloped to the river, Zephyr was sneaking away to the river also, because he met a mare there.

"THERE HE IS!" Kati yelled. Zephyr looked up. He galloped over to Abby.

"He’s with a mare!" Abby said.

"He is!" Kati replied. "She looks wild." Kati added.

"She is." Abby replied.

"I want to catch her!" Kati said.

"We should! That way Zeph and her could be together all day!" Abby said excitedly.

"That would be soooo cool!" added Kati.

As the girls tried to catch the wild horse, Zeph helped. He nudged her and stayed by her side the whole way home.

"How are we going to explain to Mr. Big about the new addition to the barn?" Kati asked.

"He’s generous, and he needs another horse. It could be our project after the show."

Abby and Kati almost completely forgot about the show that was the day after tomorrow.

"Lets go back and get everything situated." Abby said as they walked back to the barn.

                                           

THE DAY OF THE SHOW!

It was 5:30am when the beeping and most annoying alarm clock went off. Abby and Kati both leaped out of bed. They both grabbed their bags that were pre-packed and biked over to the barn. As they entered the stable, Kati Stopped by the Mare's stall. She was eating contentedly. The girls ran over to their horse's stall and then placed a sleepy Sundancer and Zephyr into the crossties. They brushed the horses until they gleamed like the sun. The put hoof polish on their hooves and gave them a final brush. The barn was hectic. They loaded their horses on to the trailer and the put their bags in the back of the truck, and their saddle and saddle pads and bridles in to the tack room.

1 HOUR LATER.......

They had arrived at the show, the show grounds were filled, but calm. They found their parking spot, and they went to go see what time they were riding. Abby and Kati were riding in different jumping classes, but the same equitation classes. Abby was riding first for her jumping round. She went to go unload Zephyr, but he was not there.

“KATI!!!”

"Ya?" Replied Kati.

"Zephyrs not here!" Abby yelled.

People were staring. "Okay, calm down, how would he get out of the trailer?" Kati asked.

"Well he’s gone. He’s a smart horse." Abby replied knowingly.

"We should go tell Mr. Pike." Kati suggested.

"Lets go", Abby replied willingly.

"OMG, Abby, I'm so sorry! I can't help you look! I need to go and tack up my Jumping Class is about to begin!" Kati said in a rush.

"Kati, relax, I know! I'll find him! I know it”, replied Abby.

Kati nodded and ran off to tack up Sundancer.

As Abby began her search all over the Showing Grounds, Kati was taking her fist jump, a 4 foot Double Oxer. As Sunny began to jump someone yelled "WE GOT A FIRST PLACE! WE ARE GOING TO THE REGIONALS!!!" Sunny was mid air and suddenly came slamming down hard over the jump. Kati flew from the saddle and landed with such a horrible thud that her mother needed to find a bathroom to find a wet towel. SunDancer lay there, whinnying and neighing in fear. Kati stood up and raced to SunDancer.

"No, Sunny, no!" The vet rushed over and helped Sunny to his feet. As the vet checked him over, a human doctor inspected Kati.

"That was quite a fall you took, Miss." He said. Kati could only nod. The vet spoke. "Miss, good news! He's oddly enough, Fine. The judges are letting you stat over with a new round, no penalties!"

Kati exhaled in relief. She hopped on Sunny and up to the first jump. She cleared in and went on to the field of 16 of varying heights. As Kati was finishing her round, Abby was searching over the show grounds. But then, she thought of the mare! Of course! He probably ran back to the barn to go see the mare! Abby ran as fast as she could and got back to the barn, and sure enough, there he was. She clipped his lead rope on his halter, and patted the mare goodbye. Abby clicked her helmet snap shut, and hope on Zeph bareback, and galloped him back to the show. Abby ran over to Kati.

"You had a really nice ride, and I found Zeph!!!" Abby said, panting like a dog.

"Really!? Your ride is in 5 minutes! I will help you tack up."

"Thanks." Abby replied.

Abby and Kati were grooming Zephyr and tacking him up. Abby mounted and entered the ring.

"Abby Caldwell and Zephyrs time, are currently in the ring now."

Abby breathed and she did her opening circle. She flew over the first jump, which was 4 feet high. She had 10 more jumps to jump, and Zephyr never touched one single jump.- even the one with a fake horse standing next to it.

"Good boy!" Abby said as she patted his neck and exited the ring.

"All horses in equitation class B, please enter ring 5”, the announcer shouted.

As Kati and Abby mounted, a girl was asking her horse to canter. The horse started bucking and all of the other horses started bucking. Abby lost her stirrup and her reins. What could save her now?
