Midnight Shadow's Missing Part 1

Age: 9I jerked my head up as I was about to fall off. “It was just a dream!” I whispered. I had a dream I was riding Midnight Shadow my mare and someone was chasing us and she bucked me off. I decided to visit Shadow so I walked outside and ran into the barn. I went down the barn aisle and stopped at Shadows stall. “Oh No! Shadows missing” I screamed as I looked into her empty stall. My mom and dad ran out of the house and said “What’s wrong?” “Shadows missing!” I replied. “Honey that’s horrible but we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find her.” My mom replied. “But.. But Mom…” I muttered “No buts” My mom commanded. I went back inside and walked up stairs to my bedroom. I flopped in my bed and tears rolled down my face. I rolled over and looks at a picture of Shadow on my night stand and I started to sob. But somehow I fell asleep. I woke up the next morning and walked downstairs I sat down at the counter and ate a quick breakfast of Eggs and bacon. Then I ran outside and into the barn. I walked into Shadows vacant stall and looked around there on the ground was a boot print! I got my sketch pad and copied the boot print nicely. “I’m going to find out who stole Shadow no matter what!” I rejoiced. I thought for a second there is some people on our ranch that could’ve done this or our nasty old neighbor Chuck Walsh.
Everyone in town knew Chuck Walsh was the nastiest person so he could’ve stolen the horse and there was the ranch hand here at our ranch I thought. Have I even mentioned my name yet well I’ve been wrapped up in this mystery but my name is Amy Carter, Now that you know lets get back to the story of Midnight Shadow! I thought and thought I’ll have to ask them some questions maybe later tonight I can get one of there boots and see if they match the boot print.
I was thinking so hard I didn’t hear my mom call me down from dinner. “HONEY IT’S DINNER TIME” She yelled I replied, “COMING, MOTHER” I hopped out of my bed and ran down the stars practically falling on the last step. “What are we having?” I asked. “Well, we’re going to the barbecue, remember at the Johnsons?” “Oh yeah..” I replied the Johnsons were a nice family but the daughter of the family was named Hailey Johnson, she was the meanest girl at my school. She thought she was so cool come to think of it another suspect!
“we’re here” My mother exclaimed. I was lost in my thoughts that I didn’t even remember me getting in the car. I made my way out of the car and opened the gate to the backyard. I could smell the hotdogs and Hamburgers. I heard laughter and chatter but that was shattered by a loud horse whinny, I looked at my mom and thought was I the only one who heard it? My parents went off to talk and I step towards the wood only to hear Haley walk up behind me saying, “Dummy it’s the woods not as good as the make up I just bought come on, I’ll show you it!” I replied, “I’ll come later I’m thinking” “umm… ok I thought you liked make up…” She sad confused. Yea right I thought I don’t like make up. I look into the woods and I see a dark shadow it looked like a horse only it had a lead rope on. I ran out into the dark misty woods practically unable to see and then noticed I went to far I couldn’t see the fire that was at the barbeque or smelt eh hotdogs and hamburgers, or hear the laughter and chitter chatter. That when I noticed I was alone in the woods, lost, and helpless. There it was I saw the shadow again this time it was closer.
Then a real horse came into view not a shadow squinted to see my horse Midnight Shadow. I ran to her and hugged her neck but came behind her a man in dark clothing with a pistol. The first action for me was to run but not for Midnight she was going to fight. I kept Midnight from rearing and yelled, “Who are you?” No reply. Midnight bowed down trying to give me a sign, so I hopped on her back she reared and I gripped on to her mane luckily being able to keep from sliding off. She started to gallop through the woods with me on her back and I could see the shadow of the man behind us. Then I recognized something. This was the dream I had. It had come true but I fell off in the dream. Shadow started to go farther into the woods, the area got bushier. I held on tight but the next thing I knew my head hit a tree branch and everything went black. All I could see was the shadow of Midnight galloping farther away not knowing I fell.
