Levi’s Two Big Surprises

One frosty morning Levi got up and went down stairs. It was vacation from school so Levi decided to ask her parents if they could either buy her a horse or give her riding lessons.
“Mom, dad can you give me riding lessons or buy me a horse? Please?” “Well Levi we don’t know if we can afford that for you.”
“Right I know, because you CAN NEVER afford anything horse related for me right?”
“We can but not right now okay? You will have to wait a bit longer.”
“Until when? When I am 20? And gone?”
“Don’t worry Levi, WILL get you a horse and we WILL get you riding lessons okay?”
“Sure whatever.”
Levi went back to her room and read some books and played a horse games on her laptop. 2 hours later, her mom came up with a big box in her hands.
“What is that?”
“Present 1 open it and then come down stairs okay?”
“Uh okay.”
Levi opened the box and found riding breeches, boots, half chaps, a helmet, and a riding shirt. She put them on and went down stairs. She saw her mom and dad sitting at the table. They looked like a cannon! They were trying so hard not to laugh but they burst out laughing!
“What is so funny?”
“Go out side and go to the backyard.”
“Um okay.”
Levi walked outside and went to the back yard to see a barn. It had 10 stalls and inside one stall was a horse! It was a beautiful bay with no white socks and she has a white Blaze down her face. Levi’s parents came out. “Like her?”
“I love her! What is her name?”
“Well her given name was Attitude but she really doesn’t have an attitude, so you pick a nice new name for her?”
“How about…um…Angel? Do you like it?”
“Yes, I would name any female bay Angel, but this mare is special to me.” “How is she special?”
“Well she is my first horse, and if there is something she doesn’t know how to do I can train her.”
“That doesn’t tell us how she is special.”
“You gave her to me, I bugged for a long time for a horse and now I have one! And we can show together, trail ride, ride around fields and stuff, that will be fun!”
“Yes I’m sure Angel will love being ridden for hours.”
“Oh don’t worry she will!”
“Anyway, you have two horses.”
“Two?”
“Yes, we put you in riding school and we sent your other horse there, so when you go to school you have him there and Angel here.”
“My other horse is a gelding?”
“Yes.”
“What is his name?”
“His given name was Spidleberry but you can change it if you want.”
“What color is he?”
“He is a bay also but he is much darker than Angel.”
“Well he can keep his name.”
“We have some pictures of him with his old owner and just playing around. We knew you would want to see him but he had to go to school so we got a ton of pictures for you.”
“Awe thank you!”
“Anyway there is more much more.” “Can you tell me while I ride Angel? Please?”
“Sure.”
Levi got her horse ready and mounted. Levi’s parents walked beside Angel while they talked to Levi.
“Your sister is coming home as well.”
“Are you serious!”
“Yes, and she is bringing her horses home.”
“How many does she have?” “She has 3.”
“You bought her three?”
“No, we bought her one, her riding school gave her two green horses they didn’t want.”
“Cool, can she pick my gelding up?”
“No, she said you can ride one of her horses if you want, when you go to school on Monday you will get to see Spidleberry and you can spend all your time with him if you want to.”
“What about my classes?”
“Well you don’t have any normal classes yet, but they agreed to let you stay with Spidleberry all day if you want to.”
“Do I have to have riding lessons there with him?”
“Yes, they want you to try show jumping and dressage with him.”
“Well okay I guess I can.” Levi trotted angle in some circles and figure eights. Then they cantered. Angels canter was so smooth. Levi’s parents were standing in the middle of their backyard just watching Levi canter angel. When Levi was done cantering, she walked angel into the center and gave her a break.
“She is amazing.”
“Good were glad you like her.”
“When can Spidleberry come home?”
“When your work is done at school he will be allowed to come home.”
“Cool I cant wait to see him.”
Just as Levi was turning Angel out to canter again, her sister arrived.
“Levi your sister is here.”
“I see, may I ride Angel over? Please? I don’t want to get off her yet.” “That’s fine come on.”
Levi’s mom and dad walked over to Amy.
“Hey mom hey dad.”
“Hi Amy, were glad you were able to come home.”
“Me to I haven’t seen you guys in forever.”
“Well your sister is happy and here she comes with her horse Angel.”
“I saw her other horse he didn’t look to happy, the stable hands tried to catch him and he tried to bite them all.”
“Are the going to hurt him? She will want to go to school right now to see him.”
“I can take her both riding schools are out for 3 weeks.”
“Take a break then you may take her if you want to.”
“Okay” Levi rode Angel in. “Hey Amy nice to have you home.”
“Hey there Levi nice to be home and nice to see you again, how Ya liking Angel?”
“I love her, she is the best!”
“That’s good.”
“How you liking your horses?”
“Well I love the one mom and dad bought for me the other mares well, I don’t like them to much.”
“Have you trained them?”
“I have tried yes and they just refuse to listen to me so I might have to sell them and buy another horse that is trained.”
“Will you ride with me Amy?”
“Sure, let me unload my horses and get them settled then I’ll tack up and we can do something.”
“Okay.”
Amy went and unloaded her horses. Her first horse was a jet-black mare named Buckaroo. She was calm until she was close to the barn she stopped, pinned her ears back and gave off three big bucks. Amy was struggling to hang on to her but she managed. She got her in a stall and locked her in. she came and led out her next mare named Miley. That mare was a big horse with gentle eyes and she looked very friendly.
“Amy? May I pet her?”
“Oh ya you can she is very gentle.”
Levi walked up to Miley and rubbed her neck.
“She is soft.” “And she is pretty lazy.”
“Is she your other green mare?”
“Yes”
“How do you know she is lazy then?”
“Watch her when she moves. Her walk is slow and so is her trot and canter.”
“Do you think breaking her will be easy?”
“Yes, personally I don’t think she has enough power to buck, all horses can buck though so we’ll see what happens”
“Can I help you with her?”
“Sure, just not with Buckaroo”
“She’d toss me off easily.”
“That’s why I have her, the school doesn’t want horses like that.”
“What if your own horse was like that?”
“Your problem but if they own that horse they’ll sell it on the spot no chance”
“That’s mean.”
“I guess they don’t have that kind of patience for that.”
“Well I think they should.”
“They take their time with abused horses or damaged but if the horses are damaged or abused I don’t think they really want them then.”
“Mean!”
“Calm down Levi I know it is mean but the schools have high standards. If horses cant meet them or they don’t listen they get sold right away.”
“To nice people or mean?”
“Cant say I don’t know I’ve seen some horses go and there owners seem nice but that is more than likely just to make the kids think the horses will be happy.”
