Thanksgiving Surprise

It was a cool fall day and a girl named Brook was riding her horse, Beautiful Dreamer, “Beauty.” She saw a tiny white object flash through the woods. She knew how dangerous this could be, but she galloped after it. She was racing through the woods when Beauty just stopped. She was a very obedient horse but she refused to go on so Brook turned her around and left, but the picture of the white flash would not go away. Later that night when she got home her little brother Sam yelled, “You’re late, you’re late!” She just sat down and kept quiet about the tiny white flash. She didn’t want her parents to know, and something just told her not to tell.
At 9 p.m. she was going to bed but the thought of the flash just would not go away. At midnight she finally managed to go to bed but she had a dream about it too. The next day she got right out of bed even though it was summer and she could sleep in. She went and wrote a note saying “I’m on a trail ride, mom. Okay?” She went and saddled up her pony. “Giddy Up,” she said and made a kissing noise. Beauty went ready and willing. As they trotted through the woods she saw something. She stopped. ”Whoa,” she said in a whisper, trying not to scare the object away. She was glad she had her binoculars in her saddlebag. Putting them up to her eyes, she saw a white shape. It was a PONY!
She quietly picked her way through the woods. She was glad she had her lead rope as she turned it into a western rope. She swung it around her head and threw it. “Perfect shot,” she whispered and pulled on the cremello pony. Surprising enough she did not try to get away. Brook pulled her in, put the loop of the lead rope on the saddle horn and walked all the way home. If she galloped, Beauty might kick the pony. The pony was as happy as could be.
Once she got home she put Beauty in the pasture and pulled the pony closer. She was about 14 hands high, the maximum height for a pony. She was Cremello and beautiful, a Welsh maybe. She kept on getting closer. The pony didn’t look scared at all. She reached up and put her hand on the pony’s soft muzzle. The pony looked happy as could be so she slowly went down the pony’s body, petting away. The pony really liked it when she petted her muzzle. Then Brook set the pony free to graze and ran inside. She put on her tennis shoes and ran to the grocery store where her parents and pesky little brother were getting groceries. She ran inside but slowed down to a fast walk once she saw her mom getting stuff for Thanksgiving. She said “Mom, we HAVE to go! I’ll tell you why when we get home.” “Okay, fine, Brook. Let’s go check out right now. Go find your dad and brother.”
She found the rest of her family and pulled them to the checkout counter. Brook said she would just run home as it was only a half mile. She got a head start and was home in about 5 minutes, just as she planned. She got home before the rest of the family and ran inside the barn. She got a rope and roped the pony, but the pony wanted the halter and so she put the halter on the pony and then the lead rope and led her onto the porch just as the car pulled in. Her mother screamed “WHAT AND WHERE DID YOU GET THIS?”
Brook just said “She’s wild and needs a home. She loves people,” she whispered. “And me.”
Her mom said, “You can keep her until Thanksgiving but then I’ll put her on the auction block.”
Brook prayed and prayed but her mom would not even look at the pony. Thanksgiving was in two days. Later that day she went and named the pony “Angel’s Breeze,” nickname Angel. Without thinking she put the bridle on Angel and hopped on her back. The pony was so happy she even nickered and then trotted, listening to Brook’s every command. Brook dismounted and groomed her and gave them both oats and a carrot and then went inside. She was worn out. She woke up and went and begged her mom some more and then went out to HER pony and horse. She promised them that she would never sell either and hugged them both.
“One day till you’ll be up on the auction block,” she whispered. “Let’s go to my riding lesson. Teacher Amber might have an idea of what to do.” she hopped on HER pony’s back and then tied the lead rope Beauty was attached to around the saddle horn. She galloped the whole way and then she stopped and saw Amber. She galloped over to Amber and then asked her about her problem and then Amber said, “I’m sorry I can’t help you, but cute pony! Bye.”
Brook galloped and then stopped at the river “I don’t feel like going home.” Later she forced herself to go home. She took care of the horses then went to bed. It was not even night yet but she did it anyway. Being sad wears you out she thought and went to bed,
The next day was Thanksgiving. She slumped all day and could not even finish her pumpkin pie. Her mom wanted to see her outside so she went outside and saw her pony and her mom said “SURPRISE! THE PONY’S YOURS TO KEEP!
Brook had the best Thanksgiving with HER pony AND horse.
