A Dangerous Hunt
By HorseyJoy & Raven
Age 13

“Okay boy, you ready to go hunting?” Rose asked her beautiful bay stallion.
Timmy snorted as if he was going to go and catch a bear himself. Rose laughed. She loved the stallion’s sense of humor.
Rose was a 26-year-old girl who lived in the middle of the woods in Colorado. Rose owned several horses and a few cows. A couple of days ago, Rose found one of her cows dead in the corral. Rose thought that a bear or a cougar had gotten to her best cow, so she rose early that morning (at 4:30 am to be precise), made a few meals, and was heading out to track down the bear.
“All right Timmy, you ready?” Rose asked.
The stallion snorted and followed Rose out of the barn and to the front of the house. Rose hopped on Timmy and started tracking the bear. Rose’s mouth gaped open when she saw the size of the paw-print the bear had left. It had to be a black bear!
For three days Rose and Timmy followed the bear tracks until one evening they came upon the huge black bear fishing in the river. Rose gulped and Timmy started to back away.
The bear must have heard Timmy because he turned his head and started charging towards them! Rose jumped off Timmy and pulled out her 12-gauge shotgun. The bear started barreling towards Rose. Timmy made a loud nose as he fell over after tripping over a log. Rose looked away for a second, that was all the bear needed. Rose looked back to see the bear jumping at her. Rose thought her heart had stopped for that terrifying second. Rose tried as hard as she could to get out of the way, but the bear clawed her leg, leaving a huge bloody gash. Rose knew the best thing to do when you are hurt by a bear is to play dead. Rose laid there, breathing as little as possible. The bear came over gave her a few pushes with its nose, and walked away.
As soon as the bear was away from her, Rose sat up picked up her gun and fired. BOOM! The bear went down with a crash and Rose saw she had hit the bear right in the back of the head. Rose put a bandage around her leg, and carved the bear up a little for some of the meat, and rode Timmy home. She felt proud of shooting a bear. and had a scar to prove it to!
