Charlie
By: Cokewolf
Age: 9

I walked to my horses door with his halter in my hands. His name was Charlie and he had his own nameplate.  He was an American Quarter Horse and he did barreling. At first I thought he was lying down, I could not see him. I ran to my mom and I was sobbing.
I said, "Momma Momma Charlie is gone!" She looked at my father and he looked at her. Momma said as she and Father sat at the table
"Hun, we can not afford a horse and..."
I butted in "You sold him!?"
Mom said, "I am sorry we can't afford a horse, we know you loved him but we did the best we could." I ran to my room and sobbed into my pillow. I whispered to myself "Why, why did it happen to me?"
A half-in-hour later my dad came up the stairs. "Hun, we can go see him now. He is around the block, to a..." "...To a nice family."
I said "Daddy, he WAS in a nice family, WAS!"  She yelled at him.
He mumbled to himself, "love". "Put your smile on and we will go see him. I said to him in a clear voice.
"Ok, can I see him often?"
Dad said, "I'll try to let you see him every Friday, Sunday and Monday."

When they were all in the car he said, "You won't believe this, and you guys." Momma looked confused "Believe what?" Just then we pulled into a fancy driveway. It had two fancy barns and three paddocks and six riding paddocks. I mumbled "Wow" Father stopped the car and went to the trunk and handed me his halter, lead rope and my riding helmet. "Daddy, why are we taking this stuff?" Dad said, "You'll see, just come on"
I was confused, why were we taking my riding gear? Just then in stall ‘5’ stood the gelding.
I yelled for him "Charlie your ok!!"

I ran and opened his stall and put his halter on. Just then I noticed a trailer was on my dads car backing in.
The "new" owner said "Put him in diary, your parents asked me to hold him for the night so you would study."
She smiled Mom smiled, and then she said to the stranger, "Thank you, thank you for everything, Anna."
I said "Thank you Anna for taking good care of him" I smiled.

Soon we were on our way home. After we took him off the trailer and we started to barrel, when things look like they are getting better, all comes to worst.

Look for the next chapter to see what the horrible thing is!
