SKIPPER THE CRAZY CHESTNUT
BY Skipper234 & Acorn

I woke up in my stall and walked over to my hay.  It tasted so good! But after only a few bites a tall girl with dark brown hair and blue eyes walked into my stall and haltered me.  I unwillingly walked out of my stall.  When I got outside I was greeted by a friendly spring breeze.  Perhaps this would not be so bad after all.  I dragged the girl toward the grass that seemed to be calling to me and plunged my pink nose into it.  YUM!  But after a few bites I felt an unpleasant tug at the end of the lead rope.

The girl pulled my head up and began to walk again.  I walked with her this time.  But after a little while I saw some hay on the ground.  I lowered my head and tried to eat the hay.  But the girl pulled my head up again!  I refused to move until I finished the hay.  When we got to where all the horses get tacked up, the girl tied me to the fence and ran to get my tack.  Cindy was tied up next to me.

“Hello, Cindy,” I said in a pleasant voice.  But as usual, Cindy replied by looking directly at me and pinning her ears back.

Sometimes I think Cindy is half rider.  She is really nice to riders but she does not like other horses.  I heard she got to sniff a rider’s birthday gift and even got to taste the cake!  I wonder if it was carrot cake.  That is my favorite kind of cake.  Well…  It would be if I knew what it tasted like.  The girl was back now.  She had western tack.

She was now tightening the girth.  I do not like it when riders tighten my girth.  I pinned my ears back.  The riding teacher had to tack me up instead of the girl.  The riding teacher always makes me do what the rider wants.  After the riding lesson was over I talked to my friend, Miracle, when we were in the pasture.  “How was the riding lesson?” asked Miracle.  “Okay,” I answered.  Then Miracle told me that he heard that someone was going to ride me in a hat parade.  “Oh no!”  I said.  I will probably have to wear one of those scary hats.  “Don’t worry Skipper,” said Miracle, “I have a plan.”

Will Skipper have to wear a scary hat?  What is Miracle’s plan?  Find out in part two of Skipper
