Chasing
By: Nat2
Age: 9

Chasing, chasing, always chasing, Tireless Humans always racing To catch me for a prize, That they will show to the world’s eyes.

Running, turning, lungs are burning, Aching legs are loudly yearning, Yearning for me to stop, I want it all to stop.

Slowing, slowing, where am I going? Someplace safe, that’s all I’m knowing. Somewhere away from a Human face, That is the only safe place.

Tired tired, oh so tired, It seems my lungs are all afire, The Humans have lost this race, Now, now this is a safe place.

Resting, resting, peaceful resting, Without nightmares always pestering. Off to Dreamland I now run, The pain is over, now comes the fun.

Waking, waking, quickly waking. How much time was the sleep taking? As I get up and trot around, I feel the Earth, solid and sound.

Neighing, neighing, happily neighing. Neighing loudly, and I’m saying, “Freedom, Freedom, I’m still free! Those Humans are no match for me!”

I run quickly down the path, Farther from the Humans’ wrath. As I gallop down the bend, I must say, goodbye, my friends.
