A Miracle Named Double

“Mini Town Farm, the home of the world’s best Miniature horses! Well from my opinion!” I said as my best friends, Rachel and Alex, laughed at me. We walked through the gate hoping to find a great Mini horse for Leo’s Chance, an organization I started that brings a mini horse to help kids with disabilities. The farm was huge and there were mini horses everywhere! We were amazed.
“Hello. I am Carol. Do you need help finding a mini?” the farm owner said with a sweet voice.
“Yes, thank you” I said politely.
“What do you plan on doing with the mini you choose?” she asked me.
“I plan on using the mini as a therapeutic horse.” Then I told her about Leo’s Chance.
“Well, you’re in Luck! We have a few selections for you. Follow me” The Leo’s Chance team followed her to a paddock down at the end of the farm.
“Here we are! These are our most special Mini’s” she informed us “This is Fairy, this is Cookie, this is Clover, and this last one is Double.” I looked at all the Mini’s and Double caught my eye. He was a soft Black and White Paint stallion with blue eyes.
“I Like that mini, Double” I told Carol.
“Would you like to take him out and walk him around?” Carol asked.
“Yes, thank you” I answered excitedly. Carol handed me Double’s halter and lead and I opened the gate. Double walked right up to me. I slipped the halter on his head and lead him out of the gate. He walked by my side. I kneeled down and pet his soft face.
“Good Boy, Double” I told him and kissed his nose.
“Carol, how much is he?” I asked.
“$400”
“Deal” I said, excited that Leo’s Chance now has a Mini!
I handed her the $400 and I thanked Carol. I lead him to the small trailer we had. I wrapped his legs with polo wraps and shut the trailer door. I walked to the car, got in and my mom drove away.
“How do you guys like Double?”
“He is Gorgeous and gentle as a lamb” they replied in unison. We all laughed. 4 hours later we were at my house… now the home of Leo’s Chance’s Mini, Double. I unloaded Double and led him to the small barn in my back yard. I brought him in and the smell of fresh straw filled the air. Double liked it I took off his polo wraps and his halter and gave him some hay and filled his water bucket.
I left the barn door open so he can come outside whenever he wanted since he was in a fenced in area. It was late and my mom called for dinner. My friends walked home and I kissed Double goodnight. I sat at the dinner table. We were having roaster chicken and mashed potatoes and string beans.
“My Favorite!” I said with a smile on my face.
“Good. Today was a long day for you” My mom said “So how do you like Double?”
“Oh, Double is PERFECT for Leo’s Chance!” I yelled.
“That’s Great honey” she answered. After dinner I got out my blanket and pillow and walked to the barn.
“Hi Double, since you are the new member of Leo’s Chance and your surroundings are new I will stay with you tonight.” Double was lying down in the nice warm straw. I laid next to him and lay my head on his nice warm belly. I didn’t need a pillow, I had Double. I kissed him and slowly fell asleep. The next morning I woke up to the nudging of a soft nose.
“Good morning Double”, I kissed him. “Ready for your first mission?”
I got up and gave Double his breakfast, and then I walked out of the barn and to the house. I got ready and ate breakfast. Then I went back to the barn and started grooming Double. When his coat was shiny clean. I slipped his halter and lead on and lead him out of the barn and out of the paddock and we walked side by side to my Aunt’s House. My Aunt has a 4 year old autistic son named Leo and he loves horses. I knocked on their door.
“Hi” I greeted them.
“Hello Makayla!” My Aunt greeted me. “Is this the new member of Leo’s Chance?” she asked.
“Yes, yes he is! His name is Double and he came to visit his pal Leo.”
“I’ll go get Leo”
“I’ll Bring Double on the grass so it’s more magical, since Leo loves being outside.”
I walked Double on the grass and a minute later, Leo was outside. He ran over to Double and hugged him. He started petting him softly, hugged him again and kissed him. Tears formed in my eyes as I watched this BEAUTIFUL connection between Leo and Double. I hugged my Aunt. We knew there was still hope for Leo’s learning. We knew Double was Leo’s new best friend and he would defiantly help other kids the same way he helped Leo! He WAS a miracle on four hooves.
