A World of Friends: Part 1

People don’t understand me. They don’t understand what it is like to be in love with horses and love to be around them. They talk about me behind my back. They think I don’t hear them, but I do and it breaks my heart. The only thing that can mend it is to spend more and more time with both of my ponies, Trix and Sparkle.
“Hey sweetie!” my mom’s voice interrupts my feeling sorry for myself. “I’m home; do you need anything at all? I’m going shopping as soon as I change my clothes.”
That’s the thing about being the only child; my parents spoil me and rarely ever say no to me. Whatever I want, I get and not to be a spoiled brat or anything but it’s kind of fun. I mean, how else would I have a best friend? I begged and begged for a pony for my birthday and I got two. Two best friends. I think they kind of feel sorry for me. I mean, it’s no secret that I don’t have any friends. I think they expected me to come home after the week of school begging her if I could go to a sleepover. Even after a year, it didn’t happen.
“Honey?” I hear her voice again.
“Uh, yeah mom! Could you pick up some more ribbon for me? The sparkly kind. Sparkle’s next show is next week.” I call out to her trying not to break the ‘no yelling in the house’ rule. Then as quick as a bolt of lightning, it hits me. The show is next week. I still have to a few jumps to master. I log onto my email account quickly so I can chat with my best friend in Indiana, Abigail, before practicing with Sparkle.
Kaitybug has entered the chat room.
Kaitybug: Abi, u there?
Sweetsportsbabe: Yeah, how’s it going?
Kaitybug: Not good at school but at home with Trix and Sparkle, everything’s great. J L
Sweetsportsbabe: Sorry, Wish you were back here. I wait by your locker every day. Keep 4getting that u moved.
Kaitybug: Good times. I have a jumping show next week so I need to practice soon. Wish me luck.
Sweetsportsbabe: Good luck, not that you’ll need it. I saw a vid of your last show. When did you learn to do all that stuff?
Kaitybug: Thanks. But u should really compliment Ally; she taught me all of it.
Sweetsportsbabe: She’s a good teacher. Tell her I said that.
Kaitybug: K, g2g practice now.
Sweetsportsbabe: K, TTYL.
Kaitybug and Sweetsportsbabe have logged off.
I close my laptop (another gift from my mom and dad) and scoot it under my bed. I change into riding clothes which is my blue skinny jeans, a neon green top with a picture of both of my ponies/best friends, and black riding boots. I grab two apples from the refrigerator for Trix and Sparkle and a Popsicle for me.
“Hey, guys!” I half whisper to my two best friends. They both break into neighing fits and I laugh. “You both knew I had something for you.” I give them both their treats and saddle up Sparkle. “It’s your turn next,” I tell Trix when he gives me the jealousy eye.
I direct Sparkle to the ring outside and prepare for the first jump. I know I’m not supposed to be out here without supervision but I feel confident. I give Sparkle the signal and get in position while he charges for the open jump. I don’t know what went wrong, but the next thing I know, I’m lying on the ground, unconscious and alone.
