Molly and her family did not have very much money.  Molly had a little sister and a mom but her dad died when she was 4.  Molly had no horses or a bike so she walked everywhere she went.  One day she went on a hike.  She found a horse in the swamp.  It had not eaten for days.  There was a barn and a house with a fence near the swamp. The barn door was open so she ran in.   There was a stall with a halter.  She grabbed the halter and rolled up her pant legs.  She went out of the barn.  She went into the swamp and put the halter on the horse.

She lead the horse out of the swamp and carefully took the horse to her mother’s land.  Her mother asked Molly where she got the horse and she said she found it in the swamp. She put the horse in their old barn. She tied the horse to a stall and brushed her with the brushes she had from taking riding lessons.  Molly washed her and picked her feet.

That afternoon she made posters about the lost horse and hung them up around town. Then she got a phone call from a local farmer who knew the horse.  He was taking care of horses at a farm that went out of business. He said that the rest of the horses were sold off but they could not find this one.  He let Molly keep the horse and brought her some hay and grain. Molly named the horse Tawny.
